Automobili Lamborghini celebrates 50 years of legends with the exclusive Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario.

Launched at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Aventador LP is the very latest (and very yellow) limited edition of Lamborghini’s flagship ride. The design differences might not be immediately obvious, but take a look at the facts and all will become clear.

The bold new model has a very specific engine calibration, making it much more powerful than its predecessor: with a fast-shifting ISR transmission, the 6.5 litre V12 engine scores 720 horsepower, has a top speed of 350km/h and reaches 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Pretty beastly stuff.

Get up close and personal with the beast in question and Lambo lovers will notice that the rear has had a complete redesign; now featuring an enlarged diffuser and expansive meshwork to improve engine ventilation. The car’s performance-driven carbon-fiber skeleton has been fashioned into the new design with special paintwork and an interior trim, whilst the aerodynamic splitter has been enlarged and extended, with flaps set into the sides. Worried about handling issues? Never question Lamborghini. Stability has actually been optimised, with an increase of more than 50% in aerodynamic efficiency compared to the Aventador LP 700-4. Leaves you thinking that it’s probably time for an upgrade, doesn’t it?

But about that colour! Despite conjuring up images of a certain Autobot, Giallo Maggio (or ‘May Yellow’ to less exotic ears) has been chosen as a tribute to what is apparently the most popular Lamborghini colour. Combined with a somewhat sleeker matte black, we’re told that the sunny tone has an intense glitter effect that will literally sparkle. Not one for fans of understated elegance then.

With only 200 of the designs available worldwide, we have our fingers crossed that the wifey will know just what to get us for our anniversario…
