We use our smartphones to book everything these days, even flights worth half a million dollars.

PrivateFly.com, the private jet booking service, has announced its biggest ever sale via its iPhone app – a $500,000 flight booked by a family office in Saudi Arabia, for a multi-leg business trip to Europe.

The jet, a converted 737 airliner, has a 5,390 cubic feet cabin that includes an office, board room, lounge, VIP bedroom and two bathrooms.

Adam Twidell, PrivateFly’s CEO and co-founder, is understandably pleased: “A few years ago many industry experts said that private jet customers wouldn’t book online, never mind through a phone app – but we’re proving them wrong. We now see 6% of our sales originating from our app and this is growing fast. It’s particularly used by the new breed of jet customer, including tech entrepreneurs. We’ve seen over 100,000 downloads globally since we launched our first generation iPhone app.”
