At the time of press, there is a far, far better alternative to turkey…

Turkey? Nah, mate. India.

If you’re seeking something different to the traditional fare this year, then Tamarind of Mayfair and Zaika of Kensington have got you covered – assuming restaurants are still opening, of course, it’s very hard to tell these days.

At the time of publishing this, the restaurants are open for lunch and dinner on Christmas Day. There are minimum spends in place  – take a look at the Tamarind or Zaika websites for details  – but seeing as they’re doing the washing up, it’s still a relative bargain.

Tamarind’s menu – priced at £95pp – includes griddled Scallops, with mildly spiced red lentil and curry leaf sauce, with a green apple salsa and caviar, and char-grilled lamb chop with pistachio crust. At Zaika, the £75pp tasting menu includes mini poori with sprouted lentils, and Laal Maas, a fiery lamb neck curry with yoghurt, garlic and dried red chillies.
