The new, limited edition Macallan Harmony Collection kicks off under the influence of chocolate.
Let’s be honest. Whisky and chocolate is not an uncommon pairing. It has, however, come a long way since we all choked on one of those little bottle-shaped chocolate liqueurs hanging from the Christmas tree.
In what’s perhaps its most refined “pairing” to date, The Macallan has unveiled The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, the first limited edition whisky in their innovative new series of single malts that will also see the famed distillers take major steps towards sustainable packaging.
To create this first release in this annual series, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan immersed herself in the world of chocolate, to uncover its many distinctive flavour profiles. This included making what Polly calls a “journey of discovery,”collaborating with Jordi Roca, youngest of the Roca Brothers of El Celler de Can Roca fame – with whom The Macallan has a long-standing relationship – at his Casa Cacao factory in Girona. Polly also spent time with master chocolatier Damian Allsop, drawing inspiration from their knowledge and creativity to identify the most indulgent of chocolate notes in The Macallan Estate’s casks. Polly has created a rich single malt characterised by a deep, dark chocolate profile, thanks to the chocolate note in The Macallan’s traditional sherry seasoned European oak casks and a vanilla note imparted by sherry seasoned American oak casks.
The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao has an RRSP of £115 and is currently available at The Macallan Estate, The Macallan Online Boutique and premium retailers, bars and restaurants around the world.
