Thanks to the impending traffic and tourist chaos, the thought of escaping London on the weekend of the royal nuptials is becoming more attractive by the second. That doesn’t mean, of course, you won’t want to sit in front of the telly and have a good snigger at the vulgar hat choices of minor European royals – or indeed the Beckhams.

If you fancy doing this by the sea, why not pop down to the Duchy of Cornwall and wave your union flag at the Nare, which nestles in the secluded hills of beautiful Roseland Peninsula, near Truro.

Overlooking Carne Beach, the hotel is hosting a special four-day royal wedding break, where you can watch Will ‘n’ Kate get hitched in style, either with a glass of champagne at the locally caught seafood buffet lunch complete with big screens, or in the privacy of your own suite-with-a-view.

If you’d rather give the spectacle a miss altogether, you could do worse than set sail on the Nare’s private yacht, which is moored just a short stroll from the hotel, or make use of the two swimming pools and outdoor hot tub.

Getting there needn’t be a chore either, as for an extra fee the Nare is happy to send its chauffeur to pick you up at home. If you have your own helicopter, meanwhile, you can use the hotels private helipad gratis. Guests can even bring the corgis (or other less regal mutts), who will have their own a la carte doggie menu.

Prices start at £2,026, based on two sharing, including four nights accommodation (Thursday to Sunday), dinner and Cornish afternoon tea. www.narehotel.co.uk.
