“The Superman” is a labour of love project for filmmakers Jack Pirie & Alex Hylands-White, made in collaboration with underwater photographers The Ocean Brothers and Bamford Watch Department. The short film follows diver Francisco Del Rosario, who lives on the remote island of El Hierro in the Canary Islands.

Previously featured watch customiser and founder of BWD, George Bamford explained, “We saw this as a great opportunity to test our watch in a water environment. We saw free-diving as unique and extreme and the perfect way to test our watch. The watch was perfect in the water. Of course we were using the ultimate waterproof watch model on the market but it was great to see how it performed. No modifications were made afterwards, all modifications as in personalisation were done beforehand.

‘The Superman’ is a short film about Francisco Del Rosario who tells us his unique story about his world beneath the waves. He conveys notions of freedom and following your own journey and passion. Francisco’s energy and approach to life struck a chord with me. I believe in not following the herd and living your passions and it was this same passion that started Bamford Watch Department.”

Bamford Watch Design sent the watch to Francisco to free-dive with in different water conditions. It was tested in a natural manner to reflect realistic use… although we’d argue free-diving is not an everyday activity for most!
